Overview

About this journey

Kanchenjunga is the third-highest mountain in the world and one of the most remote. The North Base Camp at Pangpema (5,143 m) sits directly below the mountain's north face — an amphitheatre of ice and rock that few foreigners ever see in person.

Why this trek

  • Restricted-area permit required — solo trekking not permitted, minimum group of two.
  • 16-day itinerary, fly in to Suketar, walk out via Taplejung.
  • Kanchenjunga Conservation Area — snow leopard habitat, untouched primary forest in the lower sections.
  • Max altitude 5,143 m at Pangpema viewpoint.

This is an east Nepal expedition trek. The lower sections walk through some of the most biodiverse forest in the country, and the upper sections are as raw as any Himalayan trail. We run it twice a year, October and April.
