The Arun Valley is the deepest valley in Nepal — the Arun River drops from Tibet through the Makalu range, creating a 4,000-metre gradient between river and ridge in places. This trek walks the lower Arun corridor and approaches the Makalu region from the south, through Rai and Limbu villages.
Why this trek
- 16 days, max altitude 4,250 m — moderate by Himalaya standards.
- Walks through districts that see almost no foreign trekkers — Sankhuwasabha is east Nepal's hidden corner.
- Rai and Limbu hill culture — distinct from the Sherpa and Tamang communities further west.
- Can be combined with a Makalu Base Camp extension for trekkers wanting a longer route.
Our most underrated east Nepal trek. We send people here when they want remoteness, biodiversity, and cultural variety without the altitude commitment of the full Makalu route.
